Norman was a
new year present from his mum and dad to his older brother and two sisters the youngest chick of the family. Born in Belmont drive 1st January 1936 , his stay in Belmont drive was short lived as along with his
sisters and most of his cousins he was evacuated to Prestatyn ,were he had
many happy memories and the start of his bond with north wales which stayed
with him for the rest of his life ,although he never mastered a word of the
welsh language . It was in North wales
that at the age of 8 and led astray by his older Sisters Norman learnt
how to chain-smoke taking cigarettes from the bottom of their dads stash whilst he was working from the top down.
After the war they returned to Liverpool taking
up residence in Anfield road ,were he re-joined his brother and spent the rest of his bachelor days , any
friends of the family were always welcomed were they would find great home
cooked food ,with tea and biscuits served at 11.00 am &3.00pm.while it was
easy to come in it was not so easy to leave as his sister Dot was saying good
night to Stan most nights, the route through the cellar was well used, that
same cellar was home to some of Normans great projects using the vast array of
tools that my grandpa had .He along with his scouting
friends built a kayak in the cellar which was great until they found they
couldn’t get it out unless they cut down the railings ,which Isabel still
wanted you to replace by the way Brian . His job at a garage was sort lived
when he made and error of judgment moving a car and he lost that job, but he
didn’t tell his mum, a job at English electric quickly followed soon after so
all was ok. More about th
